No iPhone, No Service

iphone.jpgMore iPhone goodness lately as the cool kids (namely me) get to have a sweet version of Facebook (iphone.facebook.com), which is way better than the generic mobile version, and Meebo (point your iPhone at meebo.com) for chat.

Mashable has both Facebook and Meebo pictures. I would have taken my own, but that seems like work. Besides isn’t blogging more about “sharing” other people’s stuff than thinking on your own?

So, I love the Facebook site; it’s very functional, especially compared to the mobile version they have for other phones. It does seem to be limited to the number of friends you can view. I wonder how Scoble works around that limitation.

Meebo has a cool factor, but chatting on the iPhone is brutal. That keyboard actually degrades what I say below the lolcat threshold. Chatting is about as fun as picking up pins off the floor. I did mess with Rich today though, starting a chat with him in iPhone Meebo, then switching over to my PC. He was impressed with my fingers of fury.

I should open a predictive market on the under/over for when Paul and Rich break down and buy an iPhone. I think both will have one by the end of the year, especially after OpenWorld, after they catch some grief for being luddites.

I’m also impressed with iphone.facebook.com. I still have to try Meebo though. I have also been using another useful iPhone web application: Skype for iPhone. It’s really cool, especially if you are a Skype user.

Eddie: This is only the beginning. We’ll see more and more iPhone ports for all the “critical” apps we use. I assume you’re loving yours too?

BTW, I’m waiting for you to drop some sweet iPhone+DBA tools on us.

If only there was an “I heart my iPhone” bumper sticker…

Humm! iPhone+DBA, you got me thinking now. I’ll have to go and study iPhone/Safari development now. In the meantime, I hope that more Oracle DBAs and developers buy iPhones.

On a separate note, I noticed that the date on the trackback above is “30 November 1999 at 12:00 am”. It does not look right to me. I use the Kramer WP plugin on my blog and it looks like we’re having the same problem with dates.

By OOW, I expect to see some kickass iPhone-DBA apps from you. I assume you’re attending OOW, so you can show them off to me in person.

Re. trackbacks, it looks like only the ones from Technorati (i.e. showing the Technorati icon) have this issue. Dunno why, maybe I’ll dig deeper sometime. Maybe it’s related to Sifry’s departure and the layoffs.
