Spot the Hoax

markallasread.jpgAfter slogging through a full week’s worth of feeds and fighting the urge to use the Mark All as Read button several times, I have a fun idea. Despite this being a no-fun zone for a while, I want to play a round of spot the hoax.

The game is simple. I’ve listed a handful of headlines below, and you just need to spot the one that’s false. The prize is a warm feeling of superiority.

  1. LED Flashlight Causes Uncontrollable Vomiting
  2. “Put down the Blackberry. I’m Giving Birth Here!” Man Live-Twitters Birth
  3. Man Surgically Alters Thumbs for iPhone Keyboard
  4. Sore Online Loser Drives 1,300 Miles to Torch Winner’s Home
  5. Bloggers Unite! Labor Union Forming to Protect Bloggers

Read on for the answer.

Here’s the hoax, along with links to all the true stories.

    Its a tough choice,
1 is a given, all those video game warnings
2 I wouldnt put it past some idiot - did he live to tell the tale - my wife would have done unmentionable things to me for that.
    3. Another crazy thing that I would not put past someone
    4. Ditto
    5. Sounds crazy - what are the dues?
Of the 5 I would have plumped for 5 but I see that 3 is the hoax. I like the quote here, http://www.physorg.com/news105620538.html from the Committee to Protect Bloggers - I need protection!

    My favorite from that article:

‘Madrak hopes that regardless the form, the labor movement ultimately will help bloggers pay for medical bills. It’s important, she said, because some bloggers can spend hours a day tethered to computers as they update their Web sites.

“Blogging is very intense - physically, mentally,” she said. “You’re constantly scanning for news. You’re constantly trying to come up with information that you think will mobilize your readers. In the meantime, you’re sitting at a computer and your ass is getting wider and your arm and neck and shoulder are wearing out because you’re constantly using a mouse.”‘

Corporate bloggers should get hazard pay for double the sitting and mousing.
