<description>Darth: Thanks for commenting. I think Rich might disagree about ADF and J2EE, since he's a Rails guy. But for the most part, I agree our platform is great for building apps. Your point about ubiquity is also key.

In this instance, I'm talking about packaged apps, ours and everyone else's (i.e. SAP, SDFC, etc.), so development choices are already made. In the SaaS model, development tools and underlying database don't matter; that's the point. It just works. So, I have to disagree that Google is not a threat in packaged apps. They have the cash and desire to get into the enterprise game, and the brand recognition helps them with CIOs and users (not IT as much).

Thanks for reading.

<description>Salesforce ain't impressing me. They are 5 years too late and although they have a good model, it's rather old. Oracle has nothing to fear from google on the apps side, why? Because oracle makes the #1 DB in the world and it's not even close, anyone with a brain who wants to run an enterprise-class apps is going to run it on an Oracle DB. The future of apps development is the J2EE stack with ADF. The choice of developers will ultimately prove this out. I have may friends doing next-gen J2EE dev and when they can see what the jsf/jsp/xml/adf/oracle stack can do (and how fast they can develop apps) they are blown away.</description>
